Why I Serve

David Holton is an active member of ACC’s Board of Directors where he has served for nearly 5 years. “I was a senior manager for a large company for over 30 years and have served on numerous boards. Associates in Christian Counseling is a unique non-profit in that God is actively and openly invited to work each day.”

“I first heard of ACC in my Sunday School class where I met Joe Verga, the Executive Director. That spring my wife and I were invited to attend the annual banquet. We were so impressed by what we heard, we became financial supporters of the ministry.” Some time later, Mr. Holton agreed to serve on the Board and says, “It has been my privilege and a blessing to my own walk for me to watch the faithfulness and energy in which the director and the clinicians serve God and their clients.”

As they serve in their local church, marriage issues are particularly close to their hearts. “Pam and I have been married for 35 years and have always been involved in church, yet the emphasis on marriage as a covenant relationship was a rather new concept to us. Couples need to understand God’s expectation and design for marriage,” Dave said. “At ACC, there is premarital counseling available for a good start. There is also skilled counseling available to assist a struggling marriage get back on track. The clinician’s goal is for deeper healing, from the inside out, which will lead to a deeper commitment in the relationship.”

“In a service like ACC provides, it is difficult to accurately measure its impact on the community,” Holton stated. “I do, however, know that this ministry is restoring families and lives, one person at a time. We know the ripple effect of a changed life in a family, or in a sphere of influence, impacts many people for years to come.”

In conclusion he shared, “Simply put, if you encounter problems, call for yourself. If friends or people you care about need help, refer them to ACC or call on their behalf.”

Retired from Wachovia Corporation, Mr.Holton is currently a partner in My ePHIT, a health and wellness software company.
