Why I Serve - Martha Sloop

Martha Sloop has been a member of the Board of Directors for Associates in Christian Counseling for more than 3 years. Read on as she describes her call to serve this “well-kept secret.”

“I first learned about ACC from a friend at my church who had just completed a term of service on the Board. Because of her, I began to gather information about this ministry. I have lived in Winston-Salem for many years and had never even heard of Associates in Christian Counseling. The more I learned, the more excited I became. At last when I saw a friend or colleague struggling, I had the knowledge of this unique place in my arsenal to share.”

Being part of a community, Martha believes that it is important to make a contribution. For her, serving ACC is a good fit. “I was asked to join the Board at a time when a real effort was underway to raise the profile of this ministry. The talents God has given me were a good match. I want to be part of the effort to uncover the secret of Associates in Christian Counseling. Hurting people need to know about this place!”

“Over the years as I have served, I have been privileged to get to know the staff at ACC. From time to time, a staff member will attend a Board meeting and share the fruit of the ministry in their personal life. I am aware of their training and knowledge, but then I get to hear their hearts. It is an awesome experience to hear how real they are about their faith and calling.”

In addition to ACC, Ms. Sloop has a heart for ministry with high school girls. “I am well aware of the difficulties adolescent girls face in regard to self-esteem issues, eating disorders, self-mutilation, and teen pregnancy. I believe God has put me in a place to minister to them. I’m grateful to know of Associates in Christian Counseling as a resource. People need to realize that everyone needs help from time to time, that help is accessible at ACC, and that it is not scary. Healing comes one person at a time. Each person who receives help, impacts their own sphere of influence in their families, churches, or work place. I’m glad to be able to serve ACC as it impacts our community.”
