I Serve—Gordon Jenkins
Gordon
Jenkins joined the Board of Directors in 1997 after learning about
Associates in Christian Counseling from his friend and ACC board
member, Bob Mills.
Bob had been open in sharing his testimony of how his life had
changed through Christian counseling, leading him to a personal
relationship with God. “Someone else I knew was struggling
with depression. They, too, were treated by a Christian counselor.
I could see how they were helped. My experiences gave me a newfound
understanding of how common it is for people in our society to struggle
with depression and that help is available.”
Gordon believes our community needs to know that this resource
is available to them. “Psychological services are offered
at ACC in a unique way. All of the staff is credentialed but they
are also able and willing to address the spiritual side of life
if a client wants to do that,” Jenkins stated. “Generally
people don’t want to talk about mental health problems. There
are runs for breast cancer research or walks for the March of Dimes
but there is much less public attention drawn to mental health issues.
People like Bob Mills, who are willing to be transparent, make a
difference and ACC can also make a difference. People just need
to know it’s out there.”
People who have been willing to share their stories relating how
they have been helped by ACC, at one of the annual banquets or in
recent e-newsletters, have been an encouragement to him. Gordon
believes, “These changed lives are the fruit of this ministry.”
