Why I Serve—Yvonne Hines

My prelude to Associates in Christian Counseling came as the organization was taking form. Through an association with one of the initial ministerial partners, I became aware of the emergence of Associates and the vision to incorporate mental health techniques with the spiritual aspect. Associates rapidly became an invaluable source for those seeking help within the parameters of their Christian faith.

As clergy, I am personally and professionally challenged by the impact of mental illness on individuals and families. Often, the needs of those we serve exceed our pastoral grasp, in spite of our best efforts; yet, God never fails to provide gateways to help and hope. I am convinced that Associates in Christian Counseling is God’s provision for those who struggle with mental health. This is why I serve.

The stigma associated with mental illness is one of the greatest hurdles to overcome, especially in the faith community. Constrained by the Gospel that compassionately compels me, I consistently explore avenues to engender hope to those who suffer, often in silence. When asked to serve on the Board, I recognized it as a divine directive. Without question, it is a tremendous blessing to have counseling available from a Christian perspective.

I copiously embrace the work of Associates in Christian Counseling. As a conduit for meaningful measures for mental healthcare, I embark upon this journey with a heart to serve.
