| Friend
of ACC - An Interview with Dr. Vaughn McCall
As a physician and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Wake
Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Dr. McCall offers a unique
perspective as a Friend of ACC.
Vaughn McCall first learned about Associates in Christian Counseling
more than 5
years ago from his friend, Bob Mills, who currently serves on ACC’s
Board of Directors. “Our families worship together at First
Presbyterian Church here in town so I’d know Bob for many
years when he began to tell me about the work of ACC and Dr. Joe
Verga.”
“As a physician, I know that the healing of many of the patients
I see cannot begin until their problems are addressed head-on in
the context of a patient-centered, religiously-sensitive context,”
McCall stated. “Christians may be confused as to whether mental
illness is ‘real’ in the way heart disease is real.
Christian counseling stands with a foot solidly in both camps—training
in traditional mental health issues and a Christian worldview.”
Dr. McCall went on to say that “as a non-denominational mission,
ACC has the capacity to reach across denominational boundaries and
be part of a greater Christian community. They are uniquely equipped
to reassure those Christians who remain unconvinced that treating
mental illness is indeed God’s work.”
“Personally, I believe that the staff of Associates in Christian
Counseling are doing God’s work,” Vaughn shared in concluding.
“I in turn am called to respond to His call to help this effort.”
We consider it a privilege to count Vaughn McCall as a Friend of
ACC!
