| Friends
of ACC - Joe and Beth Lineberry
As Associates in Christian Counseling approaches its 15th anniversary,
it seemed an appropriate time to interview some “Friends”
who have been there since the beginning.
Before the doors had even opened, Joe and Beth Lineberry had heard
about Associates in Christian Counseling. “We had both heard
about ACC but in different ways. I was aware of our church’s
financial commitment to ACC from serving on the Deacon Board,”
Joe said. “And I was approached by a member of ACC’s
first Board of Directors who knew me about helping pick out colors,
furnishings, and such for that first office,” added Beth.
“When I think about the ministry of ACC, Isaiah 61 comes
to my mind,” Beth shared. “The early verses describe
binding up the brokenhearted, proclaiming freedom to the captives,
and releasing prisoners from darkness. God uses people, like the
clinicians at ACC, and methods, like Christian counseling, to bring
healing and freedom to people who are captives in emotional prisons.”
Joe added that “sometimes people believe that will power is
all they need to deal with problems. Generally, that doesn’t
work all that well. With Christian counseling, Christ’s power
is available for real change.”
The Lineberrys believe that Associates in Christian Counseling
can have a huge impact on our community. “We have both seen
hurting people who needed help. Often their needs are beyond the
capabilities of a church staff or the time they have available,”
they stated. Joe pointed out that “while ACC has a Client
Assistance Fund, there may be a waiting list. I am aware of churches
and businesses which have given designated gifts for a specific
person’s counseling. This may avoid them waiting as well as
leaving the CAF money for those with no other options.”
When asked what they would like others to know about ACC, they
spoke with one voice. “Our desire would be for many more people
to be aware of this ministry, both to use the services and to support
it financially. Mental health issues are just as important as issues
of physical health. Getting help is nothing to be ashamed of. ACC
often uses Hebrews 12:15—‘See to it that no one misses
the grace of God…’ No one should miss seeking and receiving
help.”
We at ACC are thankful for 15 years of faithful support and encouragement
from our special friends, Joe and Beth Lineberry!
