An Enduring Partnership

October has been designated as Clergy Appreciation Month. This coincides with the completion of 14 years of ministry for Associates in Christian Counseling. Consequently, we would like to devote this issue to our partners in ministry—local pastors.

We hope you enjoy looking back at the vision local pastors had for a counseling center, hearing from the heart of one of our own therapists who has served as both a pastor and a clinician, as well as reading about the partnership between ACC and a local church today.

If your church is not familiar with Associates in Christian Counseling, we hope you will forward this newsletter to your pastoral staff.

Executive Director, ACC

The Vision - A Look Back

If you follow the news today, unity seems to be a rare commodity. The View - From Both Sides

ACC therapist, John Shuler, has earned both a divinity degree and an MA in counseling. He has served as a youth pastor but now works as a Licensed Professional Counselor. John has seen the need for a partnership between ministers and therapists from both sides.

The Fruit - One Client’s Story

We’ll call her Marie. Her healing journey began when her pastor referred her to ACC because of recurring depression.

Marie grew up in a Christian home. At times, however, she could barely function and felt unable to fully enter into relationship with others. This kept Marie isolated and even God seemed very far away. In her worst times, Marie considered suicide. She kept a bottle of pills available in case one day she could no longer stand the pain. Why I Serve - Whitney Jones

My first experience with ACC dates back over ten years. I served in a consulting role to help develop an annual fundraising program. That first fundraising dinner drew twenty-five couples. It’s amazing to see the annual banquet now attract over six hundred people! It’s just one example of how God has blessed the ministry of Associates in Christian Counseling. Read more
