June 2007

In summer, we often hope for rest and renewal. To help us move in that direction this month, our focus is on self-care. If our Lord withdrew when He needed to be alone or to drink Living Water in the Father’s presence, then so should we. If Jesus sought the comfort and support of special friends, then we should do likewise. Rather than take our health and well-being for granted, we need to treat it like the precious gift that it is. Otherwise, we will be unable to love others as we love ourselves.

from Modern Man in Search of a Soul by Carl G. Jung

What I do unto the least of my brethren,
that I do unto Christ.

But what if I should discover that the least amongst them all,
the poorest of all the beggers,
the most impudent of all the offenders,
the very enemy himself—

That these are within me,
and that I myself stand in need of the alms of my own kindness--
that I myself am the enemy who must be loved—

What then?
