Social Media:
Plus or Minus?

Why I Serve—
Karen Googe
Book Review

Dear Friends,

I had a professor of Western Civilization who was fond of saying that for every instance of progress in history something else was lost as well. We have indeed experienced a revolution of changes in the past 20 years especially through the internet and now continuing with social media. What has been gained or lost?  Perhaps it is too soon to know that with clarity. As with many tools or opportunities, the intent and the fruit will reveal the true meaning and value.

Would it be ironic for me to tell you to enjoy this edition of our newsletter and please visit us on Facebook?

Book Review

The Church of Facebook:
How the Wireless Generation is Redefining Community

Jesse Rice, Contemporary Worship Arts Director, Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, CA
David C. Cook, 2009

Social networks are changing how we form relationships, perceive others, and shape our identity. Yet at its core, this movement reflects our need for community. Our longing for intimacy, connection, and a place to belong has never been a secret, but social networking offers us a new perspective on the way we engage our community.  But how might this phenomenon subtly reflect a God who longs to connect with each one of us?
