February 2008

Perhaps the best thing about Valentine's Day isn’t the flowers, candy or gifts but the relationships that we celebrate. This month we look more closely at the connection between our relationships and our overall health and well-being.

Be sure to read the information about an important new open door for Associates as well as details about our banquet in April featuring Carolina and NBA star, Bobby Jones.

Blessings,

Heart Health - Are You Good for Mine?

Our January newsletter looked at New Beginnings. With that our focus is often on the physical—losing weight, exercising more, perhaps reducing stress. By the time February arrives we focus on love—the relationships we’re in, the relationships we wish we were in, or the ways we wish the ones we are in were different. Have you ever considered how these parts of us—the physical and the emotional—might impact each other? Read More

Tune in on the first Wednesday of each month to hear a discussion with an Associates’ clinician. Then read more about the month’s discussion topic in our e-newsletter.

Next month: Groups and Community

Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance (CBHA)

Door opens for Associates and thousands of area residents!

The door has opened for our clinical staff to apply for inclusion in Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance. This mental health panel serves the employees of North Carolina Baptist Hospital, WFU Health Sciences, WFU Reynolda Campus, and many Novant employees. Previously, these employees could be seen at Associates only under out-of-network benefits or by paying out-of-pocket. Pending final approval in February, our staff will be added to the panel making our services accessible to all covered by this plan.

We deeply appreciate this new avenue to serve our community and extend special thanks to everyone who has helped to create this new opportunity.

Book Reviews

The Five Languages of Apology
Gary Chapman, PhD, and Jennifer Thomas, PhD
Northfield Press, 2006

Just as we all have different love languages, individuals also hear and express the words and gestures of apology in different languages. By helping people identify the languages of apology, this book clears the way toward healing and sustaining vital relationships. The authors detail proven techniques for giving and receiving effective apologies. This insightful guide includes an Apology Assessment Profile that will help readers identify their own Apology Languages and those of others.
