August 2009

Dear Friends,

Well, we haven’t actually ‘gone fishin’ but is it time for a breather and we encourage you to do the same.  We will return in September with an edition devoted to the problems most frequently encountered in the school setting.

I also want to acknowledge our E-newsletter editor, Heather Verga, for her fine work in putting together over fifty issues since the newsletter began in 2004.  “Thank you” from all of us at Associates.

See you next month!

Peace,
Dr. Joe Verga
Executive Director

Ingredients for Good Mental Health

Summer brings a change of pace, family gatherings, potlucks, and picnics.  In keeping with all these activities, here are some thoughts from our staff on ingredients for good mental health--

Creative Expression
Releases the creative part of us and lets the inner child out for recess!

Friends
Remind us that we are not alone and that we matter to others! Healthy, supportive friends are good for a sound mind. They help restore our perspective if we find ourselves looking through the wrong end of the telescope.

Humor
A healthy dose does a body good!

Play
Revisit the joy of simply being alive! Play hard, play sports, play hide & seek, play dress up with your kids!

Rest
A good helping of quiet time to rest your mind! Stop rushing into activities without time to slow down, rest, and reflect! Make time to connect with yourself!

Faith
Remember that we are not in this alone and that we have a Friend and a Shepherd who welcomes our visits!

Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.
